GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – The GVSU women's basketball team picked up the 1,000
th win in program history with a wire-to-wire victory over Davenport. The Lakers put up 60 first half points en route to a 110-51 win. They are now 17-1 overall and 7-0 in league play.
After the Panthers got the first points of the game, GVSU went on a 12-0 run, getting threes from
Rylie Bisballe and
Ellie Droste, to lead 12-3. Davenport got a jumper, but another three from Droste ignited a 9-0 Laker scoring run to go up 21-5. The Panthers got some momentum with a 7-2 run, but GVSU responded with a 7-0 run to close the quarter, capped by a
MacKenzie Bisballe triple to make it 30-12 after one.
The scoring run carried over into the second quarter, with the Lakers beginning on a 14-3 run, pushing their lead up to 44-15. Two free throws from
Paige Vanstee got the Lakers to 50 first half points, then following another long range make from
Rylie Bisballe, Vanstee made a layup through contact, adding the free throw, to give GVSU 60 points, leading at the break 60-23.
Kathryn Schmidt started the second half with four straight points to extend the lead above 40 points for the first time all day. The advantage stayed above 40 at the media timeout, with GVSU up 72-47. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter, as they headed to the fourth with the Lakers up 82-38.
A 7-2 run from Davenport to begin the fourth period got their deficit below 40 points at 84-45. It didn't stay below for long, as Vanstee hit a three and a layup to start a 13-2 Laker run, pushing it up to 97-47. A Schmidt three-pointer put the Lakers over the century mark for the third time this season and the second straight game.
MacKenzie Bisballe scored a career-high 21 points, hitting 9-12 from the floor, adding four blocks and three boards.
Paige Vanstee had her second straight double-double, tallying 16 points and 10 rebounds, along with four steals.
Ellie Droste drilled three triples to finish with 15 points and five assists, while
Rylie Bisballe scored 12 points.
Kathryn Schmidt totaled 11 points and seven rebounds, with
Nicole Kamin posting 10 points and six boards.
The Lakers recorded 33 assists on 43 made field goals and outrebounded the Panthers 42-25. They forced 30 turnovers and blocked nine shots.
