GVSU Claims 70-51 Victory over RU

CHICAGO, ILL. – The GVSU women's basketball team faced off with Roosevelt for the first time in program history down in the Windy City. They endured a rough shooting start, but battled, but outscored RU by 23 points over the final three quarters to win 70-51. GVSU is now 18-1 overall and 8-0 in GLIAC play.
 
Roosevelt got out to an 11-5 lead over the first five minutes of action, their largest lead of the game. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter, ending with Roosevelt leading 18-14.
 
The Lakers started the second quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 22-20 lead, with Hadley Miller hitting a three to start and finish the run. The two teams went scoreless for almost four minutes following the Miller three, until Paige Vanstee made a layup through traffic. RU was able to get their deficit back down to two points, but an 8-3 Laker run to end the half made it 30-25 at the break.
 
Four straight points to start the half from GVSU pushed the lead up to nine at 34-25. Roosevelt was able to cut it to five at 39-34, but GVSU went on a 12-4 run, highlighted by back-to-back threes from Abrie Cabana, to end the quarter, going up 51-38.
 
An 8-1 run from the Lakers pushed the lead up to 20, as Molly Anderson and Miller both hit threes, making it 59-39. The lead grew to as much as 25 points, but Roosevelt scored 10 consecutive points to cut it to 15 points. GVSU was able to end the run with two baskets and secure their seventh straight victory.
 
Nicole Kamin stuffed the stat sheet with a team-high 17 points, while adding six boards, six assists, and five steals. Abrie Cabana scored 10 points and Hadley Miller drilled three triples to finish with nine points. MacKenzie Bisballe also scored nine points and blocked five shots. Rylie Bisballe pulled down seven boards, with Ellie Droste recording six points, four assists, and four rebounds.

GVSU returns home for matchups against Parkside on Thursday and Purdue Northwest on Saturday. Thursday will be 616 Night and Saturday is Sawyer's Day.
