SAGINAW, MICH. – The GVSU women's volleyball team finished out their first GLIAC road weekend with a perfect 2-0 record. After sweeping LSSU yesterday evening, they followed that up with another sweep today, this time taking down Saginaw Valley.
GVSU won the match by the scores 25-20, 25-19, 25-19. In the opening set, the Lakers jumped out to an 8-3 lead. SVSU was able to cut it to two at 9-7, and kept it close the rest of the way. They never could get over the hump, as the Lakers never gave up the lead, taking set one. Both teams traded short scoring runs in the second set to remain close throughout. With GVSU holding a slim 17-16 lead, they went on an 8-3 run to close out the set and take a commanding 2-0 lead. The Lakers never trailed in the final set, and took a six-point win to close out the match.
Kendall Stover finished the game with nine kills and 13 digs, both which were team highs.
Brianna Stawski had eight kills, with
Meghan O'Sullivan adding seven kills and 14 assists.
Jordyn Gates recorded 21 assists and 11 digs, while
Julia Blaney had 12 digs.
GVSU continues their road trip next Thursday, as they travel to Wayne State for a 7:00 match.
