SAULT STE. MARIE, MICH. – The GVSU women's volleyball team was across the bridge this evening to take on their fellow Lakers of Lake Superior State. The Lakers of Grand Valley State got the better end of the match, winning in a 3-0 sweep.
GVSU won the match by the scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-22. Grand Valley got out to a 10-4 lead early on, but LSSU was able to cut it to three at 11-8. They could never get any closer in the set, as GVSU took the opening set. Set two was very similar to the first, with Grand Valley again getting out to an early lead, this time at 12-5. LSSU again cut into their deficit, getting it to four at 20-16, but GVSU able to close it out again and go up 2-0. In the final set, both teams traded scoring runs, as it was a back-and-forth affair. However, Grand Valley took control late, scoring six of the final nine points, to earn the sweep.
Jordyn Gates had a big day, tallying 10 kills, 15 assists, nine digs, and three aces.
Kate Goudreau recorded seven kills on a .462 hitting percentage, while
Caroline Baker had 134assists.
Julia Blaney had 13 digs, with
Kendall Stover adding six kills and seven digs. The Lakers served 10 aces in the match to set a new season high.
Grand Valley State is back on the court tomorrow afternoon. They travel to Saginaw Valley for a 2:00 match.
