• #2 Grand Valley State will host West Florida in a non-conference matchup of top 20 teams. It will be the first-ever meeting between the programs. West Florida (1-1) dropped a 35-33 double overtime decision to #17 West Alabama at home last week. GVSU (3-0) claimed a 20-13 decision over Wisconsin-La Crosse. 

• • West Florida is a member of the Gulf South Conference and comes in as one of the top programs in the country. The Argonauts, which started playing football in 2016, have advanced to the playoffs for five consecutive years and claimed the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship. 

• Last Week - GVSU earned a tough 20-13 victory over Wisconsin-La Crosse. The Lakers built a 17-7 lead at the half, but two third quarter turnovers in the Eagle redzone kept the game close. QB Ike Udengwu completed 11-of-18 passes for 104 yards, while rushing for 40 yards on five carries in the first half. RB Kenneth Jones rushed for 53 yards and a TD on 12 carries, while Khalil Eichelberger added 41 yards and a TD on 13 carries. WR Darrell Johnson caught five passes for 51 yards, Donovan Johnson hauled in four passes for 68 yards and Kyle Nott caught two passes for 60 yards. PK Mathew Basic kicked field goals of 37 and 29 yards. FS Ian Kennelly led the defense with eight tackles and an interception, while SS Kobe Hayward recorded seven stops and 1.5 TFL. DE Niles King tallied three tackles, 2.0 QB sacks (-8) and 2.0 TFL. GVSU notched 9.0 TFL, 5.0 QB sacks and 12 QB hurries. 

• GVSU is 35-19 versus ranked teams since 2009 and 224-38 versus all teams as a ranked team since 2001. 

• Grand Valley State is 22-2 in regular season non-conference games since 2016.

• Run Offense - Run Defense...The Laker rush offense ranks third in the country, rushing for 948 yards (312.7 ypg) and 11 TDs in three games. The rush defense has limited three opponents to 164 yards and no rushing TDs on 79 carries (54.6 ypg).

• The Money Down - The GVSU offense ranks fifth nationally in third down conversions (24-for-43/55.8%). The Lakers are 7-for-7 in the first quarter, 6-for-14 in the second quarter, 9-for-14 in the third and 2-for-8 in the fourth. 

• The GVSU defense ranks seventh nationally in third down conversions, holding opponents to a combined 7-for-34 (20.6%) in three games, including an 0-12 mark in the second and third quarters. 

• The GVSU defense ranks 13th nationally in points per game (11.3 ppg), while the Laker offense is 23rd (34.0 ppg). 

• The Lakers are fourth nationally in total offense, averaging 488.7 yards per game (312.7 rushing - 176.0 passing).

• The Lakers are averaging 34:42 in time of possession, while opponents are 26:18.

• The Lakers have 18 plays of 20 yards or more, four of which have gone for touchdowns. Kyle Nott leads the way with four plays of 20 yards or more, followed by Darrell Johnson (3), Derrick Woods (2), Paschal Jolman (2) and Khalil Eichelberger (2). 

• GVSU has 28 tackles for loss (-113) and 10 QB sacks (-69). In addition, the Lakers have 18 QB hurries and eight pass break ups.

• Junior defensive end Niles King ranks 15th nationally in tackles for loss 6.5 (-21) and 34th in QB sacks with 4.5 (-18). 

• GVSU has won a total of four national championships (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006) in program history.

• The Lakers have made six NCAA championship appearances (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009) in program history.

• Grand Valley State is the winningest FBS, FCS and Division II program in the country, boasting a record of 444-151-3 (.744) in 52 years of playing football. In addition, GVSU is also the winningest GLIAC program all-time with a 315-77-3 mark (.800). 

NCAA ATTENDANCE LEADERS
• GVSU leads the nation in attendance after two home games with a total of 29,562. The Lakers led the nation in total attendance (100,882) and average per game (12,610) in eight home dates in 2023. GVSU has led the nation for 12 consecutive years.   

• The 58 points scored tied the program record for points scored in a season-opening game (58-16 at St. Joseph's College in 1990) and the 58-point margin broke the previous record of 56 (56-0 vs. Minnesota Crookston in 2001) for margin of victory in a season-opening game.

• Grand Valley State shutout Central State in the season-opening game (58-0), marking the first time in Laker football history that GVSU has shutout opponents in back-to-back games regular season games at Lubbers Stadium (Davenport 30-0, 2023). 
 
• GVSU rushed for 546 yards in the season-opening game, three yards shy of the single-game, school record (549/1974 Findlay).

• The Lakers rushed for seven touchdowns vs. Central State, the most since rushing for seven vs. Notre Dame College in 2012.  

• Three running backs eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark in the same game (Central State) for the first time in school history. The previous record was two that reached the 100-yard rushing mark in 2014 (Chris Robinson 126/Terrel Dorsey 109) vs. Tiffin.

• GVSU was 9-14 for 121 yards passing vs. Central State. Nine different receivers caught a pass in the game.
 
• GVSU tallied 667 yards of total offense (546 rushing-121 passing) vs. Central State, the eighth-best, single-game total all-time. The Lakers notched 668 yards of total offense in 2023 vs. Kentucky State.  

• The Laker defense limited Central State to 60 rushing yards, 35 passing yards, 95 total yards and six first downs. 

• GVSU recorded 12 TFL and two QB sacks vs. Central State. 

Individual Game Notes...
• Junior punter Trace Hrgich was named the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance at CSU-Pueblo. Hrgich averaged 46.5 yards on eight punts, dropping four inside the 20 yard line and two inside the 10 yard line. Hrgich ranks eighth in the country.

• Sophomore running back Khalil Eichelberger rushed for  a career-high 119 yards and two TDs on 18 carries vs. Central State (9/5).

• RS freshman running back Kenneth Jones tallied a career-hgih 116 rushing yards and one TD on 11 carries vs. Central State (9/5).

• Sophomore running back Derrick Woods rushed for a career-high 109 yards and two TDs on four carries vs. Central State (9/5). 

• RS freshman Paschal Jolman toted the ball four times for a career-high 84 yards and a TD vs. Central State (9/5). 

• Place kicker Mathew Bacik set a freshman record with his 46 yard field goal, a freshman record. Bacik was 7-for-8 in PATs vs. Central State (9/5).

QB Avery Moore (Sr.) - 
2024: Completed 21-of-33 passes for 264 yards and two TDs, while rushing for 146 yards and one TD on 21 carries.

Completed 8-of-12 passes for 109 yards and one TD vs. Central State (9/5), while rushing nine times for 54 yards...Completed 13-of-21 passes for 155 yards and one TD, while rushing for 66 yards and one TD at CSU-Pueblo (9/14).

Career: All-GLIAC...Rushed 133 times for 744 yards and 13 TDs...Completed 41-of-71 passes for 494 yards and seven TDs.

RB Khalil Eichelberger (So.) - 
2024/Career: Rushed 45 times for 254 yards and three TDs...Hauled in two passes for eight yards.
