Men's Golf in Fifth after Opening Round

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU men's golf team was back at home playing at the Meadows today, teeing off in the Folds of Honor Challenge. After the opening round, the Lakers are in fifth.
 
Results
 
Aurora leads the way after shooting a round of 285 to end at one over. Mississippi Gulf Community College is second at +4, with West Texas A&M in third at eight over. Illinois Wesleyan is fourth after their round of +12, with GVSU right behind them at +13.
 
Drew Coble is the Lakers top golfer, as he finished round one in a tie for ninth. The graduate student shot a round of 72 (+1), making four birdies over the 18 holes. Andrew Gwilliams is in a tie for 12th, as he made six birdies in his round of 73 (+2). Charlie Cooley and Manuel Cue Vargas are both tied for 19th following their rounds of 76 (+5). Cooley made three birdies in his round. In a tie for 22nd is Jan Eckhard, who is making his first appearance as a Laker. Eckhard carded a round of 77 (+6) with one birdie. Making one birdie in his round, Bryce Wheeler ended in a tie for 29th at +8. Murphy Kehoe shot a round of 80 (+9) to end in a tie for 32, as he sank an eagle and a birdie.
 
GVSU tees off round two tomorrow morning at 9:30.
