GVSU Baseball Set To Open GLIAC Tournament Action Thursday Vs. Parkside

First pitch at Jackson Field in Lansing is 11 a.m.

#2-Seeded Grand Valley State will open 2024 GLIAC Tournament action Thursday versus #5-seeded Parkside at 11 a.m. All of the action will take place at Jackson Field in Lansing, Michigan, home of the Lansing Lugnuts. The Lakers are appearing their 21st GLIAC Tournament all-time, sporting a 52-17 all-time record with a league-best 11 tournament titles. GVSU was 4-2 versus Parkside this season, however, the teams last met the first weekend in April. 

GVSU Notes....

Junior LF Ryan Dykstra was named the GLIAC Player of the Week last week after going 13-for-23 with 13 RBI, nine runs scored and four extra-base hits in five games versus Davenport. Dykstra came through with a walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the 10th of game three to propel GVSU to a 5-4 win. Dykstra, who has 16 multi-hit games and a team-best 15 multi-RBI games, is hitting .424 in the last 15 games with 22 RBI. In addition, he set a GVSU single-season record with two 5-hit games in the same season.  

Senior CF Kyle Nott Nott has reached base in 40-of-41 games played this season, including a program record 33 consecutive to start the season. Nott hit for the cycle at Northwood, going 4-6 with five RBI and two runs scored. Including hits (50)-walks (29)-HBP (6), Nott has reached base 85 times in 41 games. He is one of two players in program history to reach 200 hits-150 runs-100 RBI-50 stolen bases in a career.  

 3B Jonas Gulbrandsen is hitting .345, with a team-high 68 hits, while ranking second in RBI with 41. Gulbrandsen, who has 21 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI games, has reached base in 16 consecutive games. Junior C Brendan Guciardo is hitting .331 with 13 doubles and 28 RBI on the season and in GLIAC action he is hitting .398 with 10 doubles and 21 RBI. SS Connor Schuman is hitting .294 with 55 hits, 12 doubles and 29 RBI on the season. Schuman also has 18 multi-hit games. 

 Sophomore Ayden VanEnkevort, who is hitting .308 with 28 hits, 14 runs and 17 RBI in GLIAC action, has a hit in 11 consecutive games. Senior RF Nate Logan became the Lakers' all-time leader in doubles (52) this season. He is hitting .259 with 42 hits and 34 RBI, while also moving up several career categories (203-hits, 117-runs, 147-RBI). 
 
Senior 3B Jake Ryquist is hitting .351 with 26 hits, 15 runs and 24 RBI in GLIAC games. In his last 12 games Rydquist is hitting a team-best .429 with 18 hits, 13 runs, 17 RBI and three home runs. Senior 1B Logan Anderson is hitting .296 with 21 hits and 11 RBI in GLIAC action.  

Senior P Nick Rutkowski is 6-4 this season with an ERA of 3.43 in 65.2 innings. He has 39 strikeouts and 19 walks. Rutkowski is 20-12 in his career, with an ERA of 3.44 and 172 strikeouts in a program record 269.2 IP. 

In the last 14 games GVSU is hitting .338 as a team with 31 doubles, four triples and 19 home runs. The Lakers have outscored their opponents 111-87. The pitching staff has an ERA of 5.46, yielding 69 earned runs, with 85 strikeouts and just 41 walks.
