ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's lacrosse team was back at home as they returned to GLIAC play against Concordia-St. Paul. The Lakers were again in cruise control for a conference game, leading from start to finish in a resounding 18-4 win.
The scoring started with a
Jillian Bingman goal just over a minute into the game.
Delaney Smith followed that with a goal of her own, getting an assist from
Zoe Ziegler. Bingman scored again, this one assisted by
Ainsley Shilling. Then Shilling scored a goal of her own, getting an assist from
Maddy Champagne. CSP got on the board, but
Ella Boose scored two straight goals to end the quarter putting GVSU up 6-1.
Champagne got an assist from Bingman to give the Lakers another goal to begin the second quarter. The Golden Bears scored twice, sandwiched around a goal from
Sydney Stone, as it was 8-3 GVSU at the half.
The Lakers controlled the third quarter, outscoring the Golden Bears 4-0. Bingman got the run started for the Lakers, getting an assist from
Hailey Crittenden. That assist from Crittenden represented the 100
th point of her career. Smith followed that up with her second goal of the day, then
Leah Leonard took a pass from Bingman and found the back of the net. Boose closed out the quarter with another goal, making it 12-3 with 15 minutes to play.
The lead grew to 10 to open the fourth quarter as
Grace Maddox found Stone for another Laker goal. CSP got their deficit down to single digits again. That didn't last long, as Crittenden scored off an assist from Champagne, then they flipped roles, with Crittenden finding Champagne for a goal. Bingman and Boose then each found each for a goal, then Shilling rounded out the scoring with her second as the Lakers stayed perfect in league play.
Ella Boose and
Jillian Bingman both had career nights, scoring four goals apiece. Bingman added three assists and Boose had one.
Delaney Smith,
Maddy Champagne,
Sydney Stone, and
Ainsley Shilling all scored twice, while
Hailey Crittenden and
Leah Leonard each had one goal. Champagne and Crittenden had two assists, with Shilling,
Zoe Ziegler, and
Grace Maddox all adding one.
Ashleigh Rothe grabbed six draw controls, Stone had five, and Champagne three.
Kaylyn Cater had a season-high eight saves in net to anchor the Laker defense. Stone caused four turnovers and grabbed four groundballs. Bingman fielded three groundballs, with Rothe,
Hope Leinen,
Lauren Volk, Champagne, and
Elora Ferrie recording two.

The Lakers stay at home on Sunday to take on Northern Michigan. The game is set for 12:00 and it will be Senior Day for GVSU.
