GVSU Baseball Set To Host Purdue Northwest In GLIAC Baseball Series

04.11.2024

Grand Valley State will host Purdue Northwest in a GLIAC 4-game series starting Friday afternoon in Allendale. First pitch has been moved back to 3:00 p.m. due to expected rain. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. and the series finale Sunday will have a first pitch of 12 noon. Grand Valley State wrestling National Champion Josh Kenny will throw out the first pitch prior to Sunday's game.

The Laker pitching staff will have the services of Mike Morawski who was named the NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week and the GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week. Morawski tossed a complete-game shutout with a career-high 13 strikeouts in the Lakers' 3-0 win over Parkside Saturday (April 6). The lone hit was an infield single and Morawski allowed just three base runners. The 13 strikeouts rank second all-time in a GVSU single-game, while his 1-hitter is the 15th all-time in Laker annals. In his last two outings Morawski is 2-0 with one run allowed on six hits with 18 strikeouts in 16.1 IP. Nick Rutkowski also picked up a pitching victory versus Parkside last week and leads the staff with four wins.

Senior CF Kyle Nott is coming off an outing at Northwood in which he became the first Laker to hit for the cycle in more than 35 years. Nott was 4-6 with two runs scored and five RBI. In addition, junior LF Ryan Dykstra tallied the first 5-hit game of his career at Northwood and junior DH Conner McCormack hit two, 2-run home runs.

Senior RF Nathan Logan enters the weekend series tied for the career lead in all-time doubles, hitting the 51st of his career last weekend.
