ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team advanced to the GLIAC semifinals after defeating Michigan Tech 79-76 in the GLIAC quarterfinals Wednesday (Mar. 6) night. The Lakers improve to 15-14 and will face Northern Michigan in the GLIAC semifinals on Saturday in Marquette.

Mason Docks led the Lakers in scoring with 21 points on 7-12 shooting from the field and 7-10 shooting from the free throw line.
Marius Grazulis notched his sixth double-double of the season scoring 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Ethan Alderink scored 16 points on a perfect 6-6 shooting from the field.

Trevon Gunter each added 11 points.Â

Michigan Tech began the game on an 8-2 run in the first four minutes of play. Gunter gave the Lakers their first lead at 13-10 with just under 13 minutes remaining in the first half. Grazulis knocked down a pair of free throws to up the lead to five, but Michigan Tech would tie the game at 19 with under nine minutes to go in the opening half. After over two minutes of no scoring by both teams, the Huskies drained a three to regain the lead and would take a five-point lead into halftime.

The second half began with both teams exchanging made baskets as Michigan Tech would hold their five-point lead through the first six minutes. GVSU would take the lead off an Alderink made three with just over 12 minutes to play. MTU would answer to retake the lead two minutes later at 55-52.Â

Jalen Charity would give GVSU the lead right back with a layup and Harris would extend the lead to three on a pullup jump shot with over eight minutes remaining. Both teams again would exchange made buckets as the Lakers held a four-point lead off a Docks made layup with six minutes to play.Â

Michigan Tech did not go away as they tied the game at 63 with five minutes. The Huskies would take a two-point lead with 1:57, but Docks would tie it during the next GVSU possession with a made layup. After Harris made two free throws to give the Lakers a 76-74 lead, MTU tied the game with 42 seconds left.

Next GVSU possession,
Mason Docks made a free throw to give the Lakers a 77-76 lead with 16 seconds remaining. Michigan Tech missed the go-ahead three pointer and Harris would make two free throws to extend the lead to 79-76 with five seconds. The Huskies would get one more look to try and tie it, but the shot was off the mark as the Lakers held on for the win.

GVSU will now face Northern Michigan in the GLIAC semifinals in Marquette. Northern Michigan will host the final four as they are the one seed in the tournament and defeated Purdue Northwest in the quarterfinal round.
