Men’s Tennis Opens GLIAC Play with 5-2 Win at PNW Friday

Box Score HAMMOND, Ind. – The Grand Valley State men's tennis team opened up their GLIAC schedule with a 5-2 win at Purdue Northwest Friday (Mar. 22) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 9-4 on the season.
 
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Sean Miller and Victor Lopes tallied a 6-4 win at the top doubles position. Lawrence Ivanov and Stephen Claassen posted a 7-6 win at No. 3 doubles. Chimo Minguez and Jorge Ruiz fell 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
 
In singles action, Denys Zamaraiev claimed a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win at the top singles position. Sean Miller tallied a 7-6, 7-5 straight se twin at No. 2 singles. Chimo Minguez recorded a 6-4, 6-4 straight set win at No. 4 singles. Jorge Ruiz added a 6-3, 7-5 straight set win at No. 5 singles. Victor Lopes dropped a tough 1-6, 6-1, 4-6 three-set decision at No. 3 singles, while Stephen Claassen dropped a 3-6, 6-1, 8-10 three-set decision at No. 6 singles.
 
The Lakers will close out the weekend at home for the first GLIAC home match of the season when they host Davenport tomorrow (Mar. 23). First serve is set for 5:00 PM at Premier Athletic and Tennis Center.
