Lakers End Regular Season with 92-86 Win at MTU

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 92-86 victory at Michigan Tech Saturday (March 2) afternoon. The Lakers improve t0 11-7 in the GLIAC, 14-14 overall and ended the regular season on a four-game winning streak.
 
Marius Grazulis tied a career high 24 points shooting 8-10 from the field and 8-10 from the free throw line. Grazulis grabbed five rebounds and blocked two shots. Britain Harris tied a career high 24 points for the second consecutive game shooting 8-12 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from three. Harris hauled in five rebounds and swiped two steals. William Dunn scored 12 points shooting a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc. Trevor Smith added nine points and four assists.
 
GVSU shot a season best 64% from the field and 57% from three. The Lakers also went 20-26 from the free throw line for a 76.9% clip. Michigan Tech shot 55% from the field and 40% from three. The Huskies went 13-17 from the free throw line for a 76.5% clip.
 
The Lakers began the game on a 17-7 run five minutes into the game. Ethan Alderink would put the Lakers up 12 midway through the first half at 23-11. The Huskies would answer, cutting the Laker lead to four at halftime.
 
In the second half, GVSU would go up seven off a Grazulis layup plus the foul and made free throw. Michigan Tech would go on a 5-0 run to pull within two, but Dunn answered with back-to-back threes to push the lead back up to eight with over 14 minutes to play. 
 
MTU would go on a 9-3 run to get to within two points, but Harris answered with back-to-back triples to give the Lakers an eight-point lead again. Harris would make two free throws the next possession to give the Lakers 10-point lead with 10 minutes to play.
 
After a 7-0 run by Michigan Tech to make it a three-point game, the Lakers would go up seven on back-to-back buckets by Harris and Mason Docks. Both teams go back and forth with made buckets as the Lakers would hang on at the end with free throws made by Docks and Smith.
 
The Lakers have clinched the four seed in the GLIAC Tournament and will host Michigan Tech who finished as the five seed in the quarterfinal round. The quarterfinal game will be played on Wednesday, March 6 at 8:00 PM at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
