#4 GVSU Claims 63-62 Victory At Wayne State

DETROIT, MICH. – The fourth-ranked GVSU women's basketball traveled to the east side to take on Wayne State. The Lakers got pushed to the brink but held on to defeat the Warriors 63-62. The win takes GVSU to 19-2 and 10-1 in league play.
 
Grand Valley got off to a fast start, going up 11-0 five minutes into the game. The Lakers extended their lead up to 13 points at 15-2 following a Hadley Miller layup. They held that advantage going into the second quarter, leading 22-9.
 
The second quarter started with a 7-0 Wayne State run, as they cut it to 22-18. Ava Scanlon followed that up with an and-1 layup and free throw to put GVSU back up by seven. The Warriors answered with an 8-0 to take their first lead of the game at 26-25. Nicole Kamin hit two free throws and Abrie Cabana buried a triple as GVSU retook the lead at 30-25. They would maintain the lead the rest of the half, up 33-31.
 
The score was tied at 36 just over a minute into the second half. From there, the two teams traded buckets, with neither able to go up by more than two points, until GVSU scored five straight to go up 49-44. Wayne got one back before the end of the quarter, but still trailed 49-45.
 
The Warriors opened the fourth with seven straight points to retake a 52-49 lead. They got their advantage up to four at 54-50 with just over six minutes to play. The Lakers came back to tie the game at 54 off baskets from Lexi Plitzuweit and Ava Scanlon. With WSU holding a 57-56 lead, Bisballe buried a three with 3:22 to play to put the Lakers up for good at 59-57. The lead grew to four until the Warriors hit a triple to get within one point with just over a minute to play. After a Laker miss, the Warriors got the ball back for one final offensive possession, but Bisballe forced a turnover and Miller came away with the loose ball to secure the Laker win. 
 
Nicole Kamin led all scorers with 19 points on 7-13 shooting, while grabbing four rebounds and dishing our four assists. Rylie Bisballe had her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Lexi Plitzuweit had nine points, six boards, and three assists.
