Lakers Complete Season Sweep Of The Panthers

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. – It was part two of the Crosstown Showdown this afternoon, and just like round one, it belonged to GVSU. The Lakers started out hot and never looked back, pulling away for a 78-38 win over Davenport. The victory moves them to 18-2 on the year and 9-1 in league play.

The Laker offense opened the game strong, going up 11-0 just over four minutes into the game, as Nicole Kamin, Hadley Miller, and Avery Zeinstra all buried threes. The Panthers battled back to get within seven, but Rylie Bisballe hit a late layup to put GVSU up 20-11 after one period.

The second quarter was a similar story to the first, as the Lakers opened on a 15-0 scoring run over the first 4:30 of the quarter. Molly Anderson started it with consecutive triples, with Abrie Cabana hitting one from deep, and Bisballe hitting two layups to close it out. That run helped GVSU hold a 37-17 halftime lead.

Bisballe scored the first five Laker points of the second half, as GVSU extended their lead up to 25. From there the two teams traded buckets, until a late 5-2 Laker run put them up 56-29 with a quarter to play.

A Megan Crow and-1 layup plus the free throw got the lead up to 30 points early in the fourth quarter. That was part of a 14-0 Laker run that ended with a Paige Vanstee fastbreak layup putting Grand Valley up 72-31. The 41-point lead was the highest of the afternoon for the Lakers, as they closed out the season sweep of the Panthers with a 40-point victory.

Rylie Bisballe and Megan Crow led a balanced offensive attack, scoring 11 points each. Molly Anderson had 10 points to go along with three steals and three assists. Ava Scanlon tallied nine points and seven boards, while Lexi Plitzuweit, Avery Zeinstra, and Paige Vanstee each scored seven.
