Lakers Claim Big 87-77 Win Over Ferris State Thursday

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State men's basketball team returned home and claimed a big 87-77 win over rival Ferris State Thursday (Feb. 22) night. The Lakers improve to 8-7 in the GLIAC and 11-14 overall. 
 
Britain Harris led the Lakers in scoring with a career high 23 points. Harris shot 8-12 from the field including three 3-pointers. Harris also brought down four rebounds and dished out three assists. William Dunn notched 17 points knocking down three 3-pointers and hauled in four rebounds. Marius Grazulis scored 12 points and six rebounds, while Trevor Smith added 11 points and led the Lakers with five assists. 
 
The Lakers started the game off on a 7-0 run on back-to-back buckets by Marius Grazulis and a three by Ethan Alderink. GVSU would take a double-digit lead at 19-9 with just over 14 minutes to go on a Mason Docks made three. Grazulis would give the Lakers their largest lead of the half on an and one layup to go up 28-16 with 10:33 left. 
 
Trevor Smith would put the Lakers up 17 points with seven minutes in the first half. Ferris State would answer and close the Laker lead to seven with just under four minutes in the first half. The Lakers would close the half on a 6-0 run to take a 12-point lead into the break. 
 
In the second half, Ferris State opened the half with an 8-3 run to pull within nine just three minutes in. After over three minutes of no scoring from both teams, Harris gave the Lakers a double-digit lead again on a driving layup with the assist from Grazulis. 
 
The Bulldogs would go on a 9-0 run to cut the Laker deficit to just three with ten minutes to go in the game. The Lakers responded with a 7-0 run of their own to up the lead back to 10 at 63-53 with under eight minutes. Both teams would trade buckets as the Lakers maintained a 10-point and would go up 13 off a William Dunn made triple with under five to play. 
 
Ferris State would make one more run and cut the lead to five with two minutes to play, but Dunn answered with an and one three-pointer to seal the win with 1:39 to play. The Lakers would knock down free throws to end it, claiming the 10-point win.
 
The Lakers will return home for their final home game of the regular season on senior day when they host Lake Superior State on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 3:00 PM after the conclusion of the women's game. The game will be streamed live on FloSports.
