ALLENDALE, MICH. – The second-ranked GVSU women's basketball team returned home to face their third top-10 opponent of the season, welcoming in number seven Ashland. After a slow first half, the Lakers dominated the final 20 minutes of action, outscoring the Eagles 38-20, to earn a 67-42 victory.

It was a slow start offensively for both teams, with
Rylie Bisballe scoring the only points over the first 5:17 of action. The two teams traded baskets the rest of the quarter, ending the first 10 minutes tied at 10.

With Ashland leading 13-12 three minutes into the second quarter,
Kathryn Schmidt hit a three then a layup to put the Lakers back up 17-13. Ashland responded to take a 18-17 lead with a 5-0 run over the next two minutes. That lead didn't last long, as
Ellie Droste buried back-to-back triple to spark a 12-4 run to end the half, with GVSU up 29-22.

GVSU continued the run into the second, going up by double-digits following a layup from Bisballe. The lead would never get back below 10 the rest of the way, eventually growing to over 20 points late in the quarter, but came down to 19 points to end the period, with the Lakers leading 48-29.

After the Eagles got the first points of the fourth, GVSU went on a 14-2 run to increase their advantage up to 62-33, the largest lead of the night. Despite Ashland trying to push the pace the rest of the way, the Lakers never allowed them to mount any sort of a comeback, capping off their seventh win of the season.
