The Lakers Grab Top 5 Spots In Each Weight Class

Albion, Mich.- The Grand Valley State Women's Wrestling team headed to Albion, Michigan to compete in the Albion Open after hosting the Inaugural Dual on Saturday night. 

The Lakers had 4 first place finishes on the day. 

(117) Ana Malovich received a bye in the first round. In the second round, she earned a 10-0 tech fall victory over Riley Horvath. Malovich continued her performance in the third round, securing another 10-0 tech fall to finish the tournament with a perfect 3-0 record to take first on the day.

(124) Miriam Hopson opened the tournament with a 10-0 tech fall over Madison Stirrett (RCU) in the first round. However, she came up short in a tough match against Sandie Pfeil from Augustana, falling 12-8. In the consolation round, Hopson finished with a 3-1 record.

(124) Aspen Blasko started strong with a 10-0 tech fall over Becca Waterman from Indiana Tech in the first round. She then pinned her opponent in the second round at 1:02. In the third round, Blasko cruised to an 11-1 victory, finishing the tournament with a 3-1 record.

(131) Hannah Palise received a bye in the first round, then in her second-round, she won against Indiana Tech with a pin at 2:10. She followed up with another pin in the third round, finishing her opponent in just 1:02. Palise capped off her perfect run by winning the championship round to take first place, finishing 3-0 on the day.

(145) Skylar Little Soldier received a bye in the first round and defeated her opponents with back-to-back 10-0 tech fall victories in the second and third rounds. In the semifinals, she earned a solid 10-2 decision win. Although she came up short in the championship round, Little Soldier finished the day with a 3-1 record. 

(145) Elleni Johnson received a bye in the first round and pinned her opponent in just 53 seconds in the second round. She followed up with 10-0 tech falls in both the third and fourth rounds. Johnson finished the day with a 4-0 record to claim first place.

(160) Clarissa Agostini received a bye in the first round and followed up with a pin in 1:45 in the second round. She fell short in the semifinals, ending the day 1-1. However, Agostini bounced back in the consolation round, going 3-0 to secure third place.  

(207) Aaliyah Grandberry received a bye to start the day, then won her second-round match by decision, 7-1. She followed up with a quick pin in 1:29 in the third round. In the championship round, she defeated her opponent with a pin to end the day 3-0 to take first. 

The Lakers are set to return to action at the Missouri Valley Open, taking place on November 22-23. The competition will kick off at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 22, and continue on Saturday, November 23, starting at 10:00 a.m. Stay tuned for more details to come!
