Allendale, Mich.- The GVSU's Women's Wrestling snagged a huge win in their inaugural meet night. The Lakers scored 44 compared to Northern Michigan 6.
The launch of Women's Wrestling at GVSU was nothing short of amazing, with an impressive crowd of 587 packing the Fieldhouse Arena. The Lakers delivered a direct victory over Northern, marking a historic moment for the program. Earlier in the day, the wrestling team hosted a youth clinic, where 60 young athletes showed up, eager to join the community and be part of this exciting new chapter. It was a day filled with energy, passion, and the promise of a bright future for women's wrestling at GVSU.
Head Coach Jake Short led the Lakers to their first-ever dual win in program history, marking both the team's milestone victory and his own first as head coach.

"I think it was just exciting to be able to kind of seize the opportunity. I thought the girls went out there and they wrestled really really hard and kind of put on a show for this fan base. I want women's wrestling to be important at Grand Valley and I want it to continue to soar." said GVSU head coach Jake Short. "I was obviously very blessed with the clinic turnout and how many kids showed. The turnout for the meet was also unbelievable and the energy in the room was amazing. We are ready for the next thing now." added short.
