Allendale, Mich.- The GVSU Women's Wrestling team is gearing up to kick off the new season in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on Saturday, November 2. They'll be competing in an open tournament hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The Pointer Open featured a lineup of 15 colleges from both Division 2 and Division 3, with Grand Valley standing out as one of only three Division 2 schools participating in this prestigious tournament. The Lakers are poised to showcase their talent with nine individuals set to compete this Saturday.Â
Head Coach Jake Short is very excited to get the season rolling as this is the first year for the Women's Wrestling program at Grand Valley State.Â
"We are very excited for this opportunity to wrestle and compete this weekend. I think that my team is anxious to get out there and compete. We did a pre-match kind of tournament workout this past weekend to get all the nerves out of the way. We wanted it to feel like a real tournament by simulating the warm-ups right to the mat performance."
Coach also stated, "I think for the most part, our program is in great shape and their technical side is ready to go. Everyone is excited to go out there and kind of put it all out on the line and have some fun."
Wrestling for Grand Valley State goes as followed:
103 - Rayana Sahagun                    Â
