Lakers Win Intercollegiate at Nemacolin

FARMINGTON, PENN. – The GVSU men's golf team closed out their fall schedule with a bang, taking the title at the Intercollegiate at Nemacolin. The Lakers won by 11 strokes and Manuel Cue Vargas picked up his first collegiate victory.

The fourth-ranked Lakers took the crown with a final round of 286 (-2) to finish at -12. In second was UMSL, 11 strokes back of the Lakers are -1. North Georgia was third, carding a seven over, just one shot better than fourth place Findlay. Ashland ended in fifth at +26.
 
Cue was fantastic all tournament, shooting rounds of 70 (-2), 66 (-6) and 68 (-4) to end at twelve under for the event. He sank four birdies and an eagle in his final round to pick up the win. Drew Coble was also in the top three, ending in third at -5. Coble carded a final round of 70 (-2) with five birdies to close out the tournament. Sinking two birdies and an eagle in this final round of 76 (+4), Bryce Wheeler finished in a tie for seventh with a score of one over. Charlie Cooley ended in a tie for 18th with a score of +6. Cooley sank two eagles and a birdie in his round of 72 (E). Jan Eckhard carded a final round of 81 (+9) with one birdie to end in a tie for 38th at +18.
