FINDLAY, OHIO – For the third consecutive year the GVSU men's golf team traveled down to Findlay for the Doc Spragg Invitational and will be coming back home with a win. The Lakers led from start to finish to claim the victory, with three golfers placing in the top-five.
Results
The Lakers dominated the Doc Spragg Invitational field once again, winning by 22 strokes. GVSU finished at -24, shooting a final round of 281 (-7) to win the even for the third straight year. Ashland ended as the runner-up, carding a two under for the tournament. Findlay was third at two over, followed by Wayne State in fourth at four over. UMSL climbed into a tie with Palm Beach Atlantic in fifth, both ending with a +12.
Drew Coble claimed his first win of the fall campaign, topping the leaderboard by two strokes. Coble carded a final round of 71 (-1) with an eagle and two birdies to get the win at -12.
Manuel Cue Vargas and
Charlie Cooley both tied for fourth, shooting four under. Cue shot his best round of the tournament, carding a 66 (-6) with seven birdies to climb 27 spots into fourth. Cooley carded a 73 (+1) with three birdies in his final round.
Bryce Wheeler sank four birdies in his round of 71, ending in a tie for sixth at two under.
Jan Eckhard ended in a tie for 37
th at +6, shooting a final round of 75 (+3).
GVSU plays their final tournament of the fall next week at the Nemacolin Intercollegiate out in Pennsylvania.
