Men's Golf Leads after Two Rounds in Findlay

FINDLAY, OHIO –  The GVSU men's golf team was back at the Doc Spragg Invitational, and after winning the past two season, they are once again in the driver's seat for another win. After the opening two rounds, the Lakers lead by eight strokes, with just 18 holes to play.
 
Results
 
GVSU had a strong first day, carding rounds of 278 (-10) and 281 (-7) to finish the day at -17. The Lakers are eight strokes up on second-place Findlay, who is at -9. Ashland is third, shooting three under on the day. They are followed by Wayne State at -1, and then Ferris State is even par to sit in fifth.
 
Drew Coble leads the pack by five strokes after his rounds of 67 (-5) and 66 (-6), sinking five birdies in the first round and five more, plus an eagle in the second. Charlie Cooley carded rounds of 68 (-4) and 71 (-1) with 10 birdies on the day, ending in third at five under. Bryce Wheeler is in 15th at one under. Wheeler shot rounds of 71 (-1) and 72 (E) with seven made birdies. Making nine birdies over his two rounds, Manuel Cue Vargas shot a 72 and 74 (+2), to finish the day in a tie for 31st. In a tie for 37th is Jan Eckhard, following his rounds of 75 (+3) and 72. Eckhard sank four birdies on the day to end at three over.
 
GVSU tees off tomorrow morning for the final round of the Doc Spragg Invitational.
