#15 Women's Volleyball Defeats PNW to Pick Up Seventh Straight Win

HAMMOND, IND. – Grand Valley State's women's volleyball team closed out their weekend road trip with another win, this time taking down Purdue Northwest in four sets. GVSU improves to 15-1 overall and 7-1 in league play.
 
The Lakers took the match by the scores of 25-18, 25-21, 20-25, and 27-25. In the opening set, both teams traded points, with neither team able to go up by more than two points until GVSU went up 14-11. They expanded that lead up to 17-12 and closed out the set with four straight points to take the opening game. The second set was very similar to the first, with both teams exchanging short scoring runs. With the game tied at 15 apiece, the Lakers went on a 10-5 run to end the set and go up two sets to none.
 
In the third set, PNW got out to an 8-4 lead, but the Lakers battled back to tie it at nine. The two teams traded points until it was tied at 20. From there the Pride recorded the final five points to take their first set of the day. Set four saw the Lakers rush out to an early 9-2 lead. They were able to grow that lead up to 17-9 later in the set. PNW would not go away, going on an 8-3 run to make it 20-17 GVSU. The Laker eventually got it to match point at 24-20, but they could not put the game away, as the Pride forced extra points. PNW went up 25-24, looking to force a fifth set, but the Lakers buckled down and scored three straight points to put the match away.
 
Kendall Stover had a big game, tallying 13 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, while adding 12 digs. Brianna Stawski had 12 kills, with Jordyn Gates totaling 29 assists, 15 digs, and nine kills. Julia Blaney recorded a team-high 18 digs in the win. Mackenzie Johnson served five service aces and Paige Sanders had four, as GVSU recorded 11 in the match.
 
The Lakers take a break from GLIAC play next week to travel back to Hammond for the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament. Matchups have not been released yet, but GVSU will play two games on Friday, then one more on Saturday.
