A Dominant Defensive Effort Moves Lakers To 11-1

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's basketball team opened the new year with a resounding 74-30 victory over Michigan Tech. The win moves the top-ranked Lakers to 11-1 overall and a perfect 2-0 in conference play.
 
After the Huskies scored the opening bucket of the game, the Lakers responded with an 11-0 run, getting five points from Rylie Bisballe and four more from Ellie Droste in that span. Droste would hit another jumper and Megan Crow would close out the scoring with two layups, as the Lakers led 17-4 after the first quarter.
 
Grand Valley State continued to lead by 13 at 21-8, but Bisballe ignited a big 15-0 GVSU run with an and-1 layup and free throw. Droste and Lexi Plitzuweit each drilled one from deep as Grand Valley extended their lead to 36-8 at the break.
 
Nicole Kamin buried a three-pointer to open the second half and moved the Laker lead above 30. Kamin would hit another triple as part of a 12-0 Laker run that moved the lead up to 53-10 midway through the third quarter. After five Husky points, the Lakers once again went on a quarter ending run, this time closing with eight consecutive points to lead 61-15 with 10 minutes to play.
 
As the two teams were trading buckets, Ava Scanlon drilled a triple and Macy Bisballe hit layup as all 10 Lakers found themselves in the scorer's book to close out the win.
 
Every player once again found themselves in the scorer's book, led by Ellie Droste's 13 points. Rylie Bisballe and Megan Crow each had 12 points, with Bisballe adding seven boards and Crow having five. Ava Scanlon scored nine points and had six rebounds, while Nicole Kamin and Lexi Plitzuweit each scored eight points, with Plitzuweit adding nine rebounds. Hadley Miller had seven rebounds and helped hold Michigan Tech's leading scorer to just six points and 33% shooting.
