The #2-ranked Grand Valley State football squad completed camp and will now focus its preparation on the 2023 season-opener and #3-ranked Colorado School of Mines. The Lakers and Orediggers will square off Thursday, August 31 in Golden, Colorado. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET. GVSU, which claimed a 25-22 victory over Mines in Allendale a year ago, finished the 2022 regular season ranked #1 in the country and concluded the campaign with a 12-1 record, while Mines finished 13-3 and advanced to NCAA D2 National Championship game.
The defending GLIAC Champion Lakers return 57 letterwinners, including 26 players that have started games for GVSU during their careers. In addition, the Lakers' feature a preseason honors candidate at every position, including six preseason All-Americans and six players listed among the top 100 in Division II by D2Football.com.
