GVSU Claims A 59-13 Victory At Wayne State

#25 Grand Valley State claimed a 59-13 GLIAC road win at Wayne State Saturday afternoon. GVSU will host Michigan Tech next Saturday, Nov. 8 at Lubbers Stadium for Homecoming 2025. 
 
The Lakers scored 56 unanswered points from the 1:26 mark of the second quarter through the final gun in all three phases of the game. GVSU rushed for six touchdowns, recovered a fumbled snap in the endzone and returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown. 

Wayne State got on the board first with a 26-yard field goal that culminated an 11-play, 59-yard drive to start the game. The Lakers answered with a 10-play, 64-yard drive that PK Mathew Bacik ended with a 29-yard field goal to tie the game at 3-3.

Wayne State hit another field goal and led 6-3 with 3:42 left in the second quarter, but the Lakers drove 73 yards in six plays for a Derrick Woods 1-yard touchdown run. QB Andrew Schuster hit WR Kellen Reed with a 19-yard completion and then hit Woods with a 31-yard completion to the Wayne State one yard line prior to his TD run. The Laker defense forced a fumble that DE Ryder Gravenhof recovered at the Warrior eight-yard line. Senior RB Syone Usma-Harper toted the ball three times, the final being a 1-yard TD run and PK Mathew Bacik it the PAT for a 17-6 halftime lead. 
 
The Lakers put 28 points on the scoreboard in the third quarter. Following a Wayne State fumble that DT Jibriel Conde recovered at the Wayne State 45-yard line, the Lakers need just two plays to score. Schuster hit WR Lynn Wyche-El with a 22-yard completion and RB Paschal Jolman rambled 23 yards for a touchdown. The GVSU defense forced a three-and-out to force a Wayne State punt and the Lakers' Anthony Scott recovered a fumbled snap in the endzone for a touchdown to up the Laker lead to 31-6. 
 
RB Kenneth Jones rushed for a 1-yard touchdown to conclude a 6-play, 51-yad drive and before the quarter ended CB Jason Hardy returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown. QB Zak Olejniczak rushed for a 5-yard touchdown and RB Kellen Russell-Dixon rushed for a 2-yard touchdown to conclude the scoring. 
Schuster completed 17-of-26 passes for 256 yards to lead the passing game. Reed caught five passes for 70 yards, Wyche-El hauled in four passes for 81 yards and Sean Byrd caught three passes for 33 yards. Russell-Dixon led the ground game with nine carries for 61 yards. 
 
The GVSU defense recorded 9.0 tackles for loss and 4.0 QB sacks. LB Torian Wyatt tallied eight tackles, while senior LB Anthony Cardamone recorded seven stops, 1.5 QB sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss.
