LANSING – The Grand Valley State baseball team is set to begin postseason play tomorrow (May 11) in the first round of the GLIAC Tournament in Lansing, Michigan. The Lakers will face Saginaw Valley State at 7:00 PM at Jackson Field home of the Lansing Lugnuts.
The Lakers and Saginaw Valley State recently faced each other last weekend at the GVSU Baseball Field and have faced each other six times in total this season. Both teams have won three games and lost three games going into tomorrow's first round matchup. The Lakers are 92-70-2 all-time against Saginaw Valley State.
The Lakers enter the GLIAC Tournament with a 28-19 record and finished fourth place in the standings. GVSU led the entire conference with a .310 batting average led by sophomore
Jonas Gulbrandsen with a .364 average ranking fourth in the GLIAC. Sophomore
Conner McCormack is hitting .363 on the season and leads the team with seven home runs.
Starting pitcher Nick Ruwkowski has put together a solid junior campaign posting an 8-2 record and a conference leading 1.80 ERA. Rutkowski has tossed five complete games with 52 strikeouts. Senior pitcher
Sam Leck earned his first win of the season last weekend in a walk off win over Saginaw Valley and led the GLIAC with six saves.
