ALLENDALE, MICH. – It was another dominating effort from the GVSU women's lacrosse team this afternoon, as they soundly defeated Concordia-St. Paul 19-5. The win moved GVSU to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in GLIAC play.
The Lakers blitzed out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, started by a power play goal from
Maddy Champagne. She then scored another off a pass from
Kate DeYoung, before returning the favor and assisting on a DeYoung goal.
Ashleigh Rothe followed that with her first of the day, before DeYoung added two more. CSP got one back, but
Molly Bursinger answered back for the Lakers, and then she scored again after another Golden Bear goal to put GVSU up 8-2 heading into the second quarter.
Bursinger continued scoring to begin the second quarter as she got a hat trick with 14:21 remaining in the second quarter.
Ella Boose then entered the scorer's book, getting assisted by Champagne, who followed that up with her third of the game to give her a hat trick.
Hailey Crittenden and DeYoung each scored to finish out the half with the Lakers up 13-2.
The Golden Bears got a goal to open the second half, but it was quickly answered by another Champagne goal, this one assisted by
Zoe Ziegler. CSP scored the final goal of the quarter, but still trailed 14-4 heading into the fourth.
They cut into the lead once again to open the fourth, but GVSU would not let them any closer, ending the game on a 5-0 scoring run. Rothe started the run with her second goal, followed by another from Bursinger, then two from
Ella Boose to give her the first hat trick of her career, and it was closed out by
Zoe Ziegler scoring off an assist from
Grace Bancroft. The win was the fifth straight for the Lakers and kept them undefeated in GLIAC play.

Maddy Champagne, and
Molly Bursinger all scored four goals apiece to lead the Laker offense.
Ella Boose added her first career hat trick, while
Ashleigh Rothe scored twice and
Hailey Crittenden and
Zoe Ziegler each scored once. Champagne added two assists, while DeYoung, Ziegler, and
Grace Bancroft each had one. In the draw control circle, Bursinger grabbed six, while Rothe added three.
Crittenden caused three turnovers, and Bursinger, Rothe, and
Maggie Hammer each caused two.
Sarah Krause moved to 4-0 on the year in the cage, saving four shots.

The Lakers have a busy week next week, as they are on the road at Davenport on Wednesday, then they go to Walsh Friday, before returning home Sunday for Senior Day against Davenport.
