Lakers continue GLIAC play with four game series at Parkside

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State baseball team is back on the diamond this weekend to continue at Parkside beginning tomorrow (April 6) with a single nine inning game at 4:00 PM ET. The Lakers will then face the Rangers in a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 2:00 PM ET, before concluding the series on Saturday with a single nine inning game at 12:00 PM ET.

The Lakers enter the weekend with a 16-8 overall record and a 5-4 GLIAC mark, while Parkside sits at 7-16 overall, 1-7 in the GLIAC. GVSU and Parkside met for the first time this year early in the week on Sunday (April 2) at the GVSU Baseball Field. The Lakers won both games of the doubleheader winning game one 7-2 and game two 8-3. GVSU leads the all-time series against the Rangers 22-8. 
 
Junior Nathan Logan went 4-8 at the plate in the two games including three runs scored and three runs batted in. Logan is hitting .337 on the season with 18 runs scored and 17 runs batted in. Sophomore Brendan Guciardo batted 3-7 at the plate in the two games against the Rangers including notching two doubles and launching his second home run of the season. Kyle Nott leads the Laker offense with 25 runs scored and 18 runs batted in. Nott is hitting .333 on the season with 30 hits and 40 total bases. 
 
Nick Rutkowski started in game one against Parkside and earned his fifth win of the season to improve to 5-1 on the mound this season. Rutkowski recorded his 100th career strikeout as a Laker finishing with a season high eight in the win. Colby Phipps started game two and improved to 5-0 on the season after tossing seven innings allowing just one earned run off six hits with a season high six strikeouts. Phipps has posted a 2.81 ERA on the season and is second on the team with 21 strikeouts. 
 
Parkside is led by junior Andrew Harris who has notched a .396 batting average with 13 runs scored and 17 runs batted in on the season. Daniel Llanas is batting .386 with a team leading 18 runs batted in and has made seven appearances on the mound including four starts. Llanas started in game one against the Lakers tossing 4.1 innings pitched allowing five runs off five hits with four strikeouts. Senior Chris Conrad has made seven appearances on the mound with five starts and leads the pitching staff with 25.1 innings pitched on the year. Conrad has posted a 1-2 record with a 5.68 ERA.
