ALLENDALE—The Grand Valley State softball team came in ranked second in the Midwest Region in the NCAA Regional rankings released on Wednesday.

The Lakers, who are ranked seventh in the NFCA Coaches Poll, sit one slot behind Indianapolis and is in position to host an NCAA Regional in May.

GVSU currently holds a 35-3 record and is 17-0 in GLIAC play. The Lakers are riding a 17-game winning streak headed into a weekend full of action.

The Lakers are set for three consecutive days of doubleheaders. GVSU will play Purdue Northwest at 2 p.m. on Friday in Hammond, Indiana. Then the Lakers take a trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to take on Parkside for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday. GVSU returns home for a doubleheader against Ferris State at 2 p.m. at the GVSU Softball Field.
