Lakers Set to Host Hillsdale Wednesday

ALLENDALE – The Grand Valley State baseball team returns home for a single nine inning game against regional foe Hillsdale Wednesday (April 19) at 3:00 PM at the GVSU Baseball Field. 
 
This will be the second meeting between the Lakers and Chargers this season. The Lakers defeated Hillsdale 11-3 back in March at Hillsdale. Colby Phipps picked up his third win of the season improving to 3-0 after tossing one inning of relief. GVSU out hit Hillsdale 12-3 led by Nathan Logan who batted 3-5 with and RBI and two runs scored. Carter Rohman went 2-4 at the plate with a double, RBI, and two runs scored.
 
The Lakers are coming off a four-game series split against Wayne State and are now 22-1 on the season with a 10-7 GLIAC mark. GVSU won game one 4-2 in dramatic fashion as Nathan Logan launched a two-run walk off home run. The Lakers won game four 8-5 after trailing 5-0 in the first inning and scored eight unanswered runs in the final eight innings. 
 
Sophomore Jonas Gulbrandsen leads the Lakers this season with a .374 batting average and eight doubles. Senior Spencer Nelson has launched a GLIAC leading six home runs and leads the Lakers with three triples and eight doubles. Junior pitcher Nick Rutkowski tossed his fifth complete game last weekend against Wayne State. Rutkowski is 7-1 on the season and earned the win in his last seven consecutive starts. The junior leads the GLIAC with a 1.53 ERA and seven wins. 
 
Hillsdale comes to Allendale with a 17-18 overall record and 10-8 GMAC mark. Sophomore Will Shannon leads the Chargers with a .353 average with 41 hits and 29 runs scored. Junior Joe Hardenbergh has launched 10 home runs on the season with a 24 RBI's and 28 runs scored. Senior Will Gifford leads the pitching staff with five wins. Junior Zane Barnett has posted a 4-1 record with a 1.42 ERA in 31.2 innings pitched.
