GRAND RAPIDS – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in the GLIAC after defeating #9 Wayne State 4-3 Saturday (March 25) at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. That win is the highest ranked win in program history as the Lakers improve to 9-5 on the season.
The Lakers claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Vasileia Griva and
Taylor Barrett earned a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles which is their eighth win as a doubles pair this season.
Rachel Sam and
Estefania Hernandez claimed their ninth win this season as a doubles pair after a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Ana Romero Gonzalez and
Anna Soteras dropped a tough 2-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.
On the singles side,
Vasileia Griva claimed her eighth singles win of the season with a 6-7, 6-3, 6-1 three-set win at No. 1 singles over the #16 ranked singles player in the country.
Taylor Barrett also claimed her eighth singles win of the season with a 6-4, 6-0 straight set win at No. 2 singles.
Anna Soteras earned her ninth singles win of the season with a 6-4, 6-3 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Amanda Diaz dropped a tough 6-4, 5-7, 8-10 three-set decision at No. 6 singles.
Rachel Sam fell 6-7, 0-6 at No. 3 singles, while
Estefania Hernandez dropped a 5-7, 1-6 decision at No. 5 singles.
The Lakers will continue GLIAC action next weekend when they travel to Davenport on Friday (March 31). First serve is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
