MIDLAND, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team defeated Saginaw Valley State on the road 6-1 in the GLIAC opener Friday (March 24) afternoon. The Lakers improve to 8-5 on the season, while Saginaw Valley State drops to 5-8.
The Lakers swept doubles play to claim the doubles point.
Vasileia Griva and
Taylor Barrett earned a dominant 6-0 win at No. 1 doubles.
Rachel Sam and
Estefania Hernandez claimed a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles for their eighth win as a doubles pair.
Anna Soteras and
Ana Romero Gonzalez tallied a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
On the singles side,
Vasileia Griva claimed a 6-2, 7-6 straight set win at No. 1 singles.
Taylor Barrett earned a 6-4, 6-4 straight set win at No. 2 singles.
Anna Soteras claimed her eighth singles win in her freshman season with a 6-3, 6-4 straight set win at No. 4 singles.
Estefania Hernandez tallied a 6-2, 7-6 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Amanda Diaz added a 6-4, 6-2 straight set win at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers will return to the courts for their GLIAC home opener tomorrow (March 25) when they face #9 Wayne State at 5:00 PM at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club.
