Lakers Fall To Maryville 15-12

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team took on Maryville this evening, and in a high scoring affair, the Lakers fell 15-12.
 
Sydney Stone opened the scoring, getting a pass from Kate DeYoung and put one past the Saints goalie to put the Lakers up 1-0. The Saints tied it up shortly after, but Molly Bursinger put GVSU right back in front with an unassisted goal. After Maryville tied it up once again, DeYoung and Maggie Hammer scored back-to-back goals to go up 4-2. Maryville tied it up to end the quarter at 4-4.
 
The Saints took control in the second quarter, scoring seven goals to the Lakers two. GVSU got two goals from DeYoung but trailed 11-6 at the half.
 
The lead was pushed to 12-6 early in the third, but Hammer scored consecutive goals to cut the deficit to four. Maryville scored twice more, but Stone and DeYoung, off a pass from Hailey Crittenden, each struck once more before the end of the quarter to make it 14-10 heading into the fourth quarter.
 
DeYoung and Champagne scored to open the fourth quarter, with DeYoung scoring unassisted, and Champagne getting assisted by DeYoung, making it 14-12, Maryville. That was as close as they would get, as the Saints scored one more late goal to ice the game.
 
Kate DeYoung scored five goals and had two assists, while Maggie Hammer added a hat trick. Sydney Stone scored twice, and Molly Bursinger and Maddy Champagne each had one. Hailey Crittended dished out one assist. Bursinger grabbed five groundballs and had seven draw controls. Stone gathered three groundballs and five draw controls. Bursinger, Stone, Zoe Ziegler, and Hammer all caused multiple turnovers.
