GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team won the sixth straight match by defeating Hillsdale 6-1 Saturday (Feb. 25) evening at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. The Lakers improved to 6-2 on the season.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Rachel Sam and
Estefania Hernandez earned a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
Ana Romero Gonzalez and
Anna Soteras tallied a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.
Vasileia Griva and
Taylor Barrett dropped a tough 4-6 decision at No. 1 doubles.
On the singles side,
Vasileia Griva improved to 6-1 in singles action with a 6-4, 7-5 straight set win at No. 1 singles.
Taylor Barrett claimed a 6-1, 6-3 straight set at No. 2 singles to improve to 5-2 in singles play.
Rachel Sam tallied a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles to improve to 7-1 on the season.
Estefania Hernandez claimed a 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 three-set win at No. 5 singles, while
Ana Romero Gonzalez earned a 6-0, 6-1 straight set win at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers are back in action on March 6 when they travel to Daytona Beach, FL to face Embry-Riddle at 3:30 PM. The Lakers will then travel to Saint Leo, FL for a match against Saint Leo on March 17.
