PLAINFIELD, Ill. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team picked up their third consecutive win Friday (Feb. 17) night by defeating Illinois Springfield 6-1 at Five Star Tennis Center. The Lakers improve to 3-2 on the season.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Taylor Barrett and
Vasileia Griva earned a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles.
Rachel Sam and
Estefania Hernandez tallied a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles. The win improved Sam and Hernandez to 3-0 as a pair at the No. 2 doubles position.
On the singles side,
Vasileia Griva claimed a dominate 6-2, 6-1 straight set win at No. 1 singles.
Taylor Barrett earned a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 2 singles.
Rachel Sam improved to 5-0 in singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
Amanda Diaz tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win from No. 5 singles.
Leonie Leister claimed a 6-0, 6-4 straight set win at No. 6 singles.
Estefania Hernandez dropped a tough 6-3, 3-6, 10-12 three-set decision at No. 4 singles.
The Lakers are back on the courts tomorrow evening (Feb. 18) when they face regional opponent Lewis at Five Star Tennis Center. First serve is set for 6:30 PM.
