GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team defeated Findlay 6-1 Saturday (Feb. 11) evening at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club. The Lakers picked up their second win of the weekend and improve to 2-2 on the season.
GVSU claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Taylor Barrett and
Vasileia Griva claimed a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles.
Rachel Sam and
Estefania Hernandez tallied a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Anna Soteras and
Amanda Diaz dropped a tough 4-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.
On the singles side,
Taylor Barrett earned a hard fought 6-3, 3-6, 12-10 three-set win at No. 1 singles.
Vasileia Griva claimed a dominate 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.
Rachel Sam improved to 4-0 in singles play on the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles.
Anna Soteras tallied a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles to improve to 3-1 on the season in singles play.
Estefania Hernandez earned a 6-1, 6-4 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Amanda Diaz dropped a tough 6-7, 2-6 decision at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers will return to the courts when they travel on the road for the first time this season next weekend. GVSU will face Illinois Springfield for a neutral site match on Friday (Feb. 17) on the campus of Lewis before facing the host Lewis on Saturday (Feb. 18). First serve against Illinois Springfield is scheduled for 8:00 PM, and 6:30 PM start time against Lewis.
