Lakers Pick Up A Winter Wonderland Win

ALLENDALE, MICH. – It may have been Winter Wonderland Day, but the GVSU women's basketball team was red hot, shooting over 50% from the field en route to an 84-42 win over Tiffin.

The Lakers raced out to a 13-2 lead halfway through the first half, getting points from five different players. They kept up the pace the rest of the quarter, as Rylie Bisballe scored four straight and Abrie Cabana drilled a three, and GVSU led 22-6 after 10 minutes.

They pushed their lead up to 20 points following a jumper from Ellie Droste and a layup from Ava Scanlon, putting GVSU up 31-11. The Dragons were able to bring it down to 15, but the Lakers answered right back, getting their lead up to 22 points after Cabana hit another three-pointer before the half, giving them a 39-17 advantage.

The offensive output continued into the second half, as the Lakers put up 24 points in the third quarter. Nicole Kamin started it out with an and-1 layup and free throw and GVSU kept rolling from there. Droste hit two threes, and Avery Zeinstra scored six points in the period, as GVSU led 63-34 after three quarters.

A Molly Anderson layup extended the lead to 31 to open the fourth. The lead kept growing as Zeinstra drilled another triple, then Megan Crow made a layup to put the Lakers up by 41. Tiffin cut into a bit, but GVSU finished it out with the final five points to pick up the 40-point win.

Ellie Droste led all scorers with 15 points, shooting 6-10 from the field, and 3-6 from deep. Abrie Cabana added 14 points and four assists on 5-8 shooting, also hitting three triples.
Avery Zeinstra scored nine points and added five rebounds, while Nicole Kamin and Rylie Bisballe each had eight points, with Kamin also grabbing eight boards. The Lakers forced 24 turnovers and outrebounded the Dragons 37-23.
