ALLENDALE, MICH. - The GVSU women's basketball team and head coach
Mike Williams announced their 2024 signing class, as five players signed their NLI's and committed to GVSU next fall. All five players will be freshmen next season, as the class consists of three guards and two forwards.
"We are extremely excited about our 2024 class of incoming recruits! This class of five players has a good balance of size, athleticism, and skill," remarked head coach
Mike Williams. "They are not only highly competitive basketball players, but they are high academic and great people as well. They are as close to a great fit for Grand Valley State as you can get."
MacKenzie Bisballe | Guard | 6-1 | Lake City, Mich. | Lake City High School
MacKenzie Bisballe has done nothing but win during her time as a Trojan, going 53-8 over her three years there. During that time, Bisballe has twice been named an All-State member, and has led her team to two conference titles, two district titles, and one regional championship.
Sydney Cherney | Guard | 5-8 | Reedsburg, Wis. | Reedsburg High School
Sydney Cherney has been a pure scorer throughout her time at Reedsburg, averaging over 20 points per game, culminating in being Wisconsin's leading scorer last year, when she scored over 30 points. The three-time All-State selection has also pulled down over eight rebounds per game in her career.
Tayla Dillard | Guard | 5-10 | Kalamazoo, Mich. | Kalamazoo Central High School
Named an All-State performer last season, Tayla Dillard helped lead Kalamazoo Central to a 21-2 record. She averaged 17 points and over nine rebounds and earned MLive's girls basketball Dream Team Player of the Year.
Reese Gayton | Forward | 5-11 | Williamson, Mich. | Williamston High School
A three-time all-league selection, Reese Gaytan averaged a near double-double last year, putting up 12.2 points and 8.1 rebounds a game. Named Team MVP and team captain as a junior, Gaytan has helped lead her team to 41 victories in her career.
Kelly Kray | Forward | 6-3 | Wausau, Wis. | Wausau West High School
A double-double threat every time she steps on the floor, Kelly Kray has been a force in the paint for Wausau West. Kray has tallied 23 double-doubles over the past two seasons, as she averaged 10.6 points and 9.6 rebounds last year, leading the conference in rebounding a junior.
"Sydney and Tayla are both combo guards that can play on and off the ball, Reese and Kenzie can play all 5 spots on the floor, and Kelly is both a faceup and back to the basket post player," Williams said. "We believe all five signees are committed to excellence, being their best, and continuing the great competitive culture that Grand Valley State has had over the years."
