• THE GAME
#2 Grand Valley State will hit the road for a GLIAC tilt at Northern Michigan in the legendary Superior Dome.

• THE SERIES
Grand Valley State leads the all-time series with Northern Michigan by a 26-17-1 margin, having won seven consecutive and 18-of-the-last-19. The Grand Valley State-Northern Michigan series has gone in cycles over the years. NMU won 12-of-the-first-13 meetings between the schools, but the Lakers' rebounded and went 7-1-1 from 1989-1997. The Wildcats won three straight meetings (1998-2000) prior to the Lakers' 11-game winning streak from 2001-2011. GVSU averaging 46.5 points in the last 16 meetings, while yielding 11.5. GVSU is 25-5-1 vs. NMU since 1989. 

Since 11-3-2001 GVSU has been ranked in the top 4 of a D2 poll 157 weeks (out of a total of 257 weeks). 

•  The Lakers are celebrating their 52nd year of football in 2023. GVSU is the all-time winningest program in DII history with a record of 436-150-3 (.741).  In addition, GVSU is also the winningest team in GLIAC history with a 311-77-3 mark (.795).     

• GVSU has won a total of four national championships (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006) in program history.


• The Lakers have made six NCAA championship appearances (2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009) in program history.

•  GVSU has made a total of 22 playoff appearances in program history, with the most recent coming in 2022.

• Grand Valley State is the winningest FBS, FCS and Division II program in the country, boasting a record of 436-150-3 (.741) in 51 years of playing football. In addition, GVSU is also the winningest GLIAC program all-time with a 311-77-3 mark (.793). 

NCAA ATTENDANCE LEADERS
• GVSU once again leads the nation in total attendance (59,282) and average per game (14,820) in four home dates. GVSU has led the nation for 11 consecutive years. 
The Lakers have three home game totals 
(16,577, 15,844 and 15,182) that would rank 17th and 19th and 21st in season attendance in D2. The Lakers' average of 14,820 is more than the total of the GLIAC's second-place representative. 
 
10 WIN SEASONS
• Grand Valley State has won 10 or more games 18 times in the 51-year history of the program, including 16 times since 2001.


• Grand Valley State has always played one of the most challenging schedules nationally and 2023 is no different. Five of the Lakers' first six opponents, including the first three non-conference games, are ranked in a national poll and six are currently ranked overall.

• GVSU holds the Division II record for the longest winning streak at 40 consecutive wins from 2005-2007. The Lakers won two national championships during that span.

• The GVSU defense held Kentucky State to -22 rushing yards, the fourth lowest single-game total in program history. 

• The Laker offense tallied 668 yards of total offense vs. Kentucky State, the eighth-best, single-game total in program history. 

• The GVSU defense held Saginaw Valley State to 142 yards (108 passing/34 rushing) and Kentucky State to 154 yards (176 passing/-22 rushing). Combined, those two opponents tallied 296 yards of total offense on 122 plays (2.4 ypp). 

• Since Colorado Mines rushed for 109 yards and two TDs in the opener, Laker opponents have 200 rushing yards and two rushing TD the last five games (40.0) on 117 carries (1.7 ypc). 

• The Laker defense did not allow SVSU a first down in the first half and forced 10 drives of three plays or less in the game. In addition, the Laker defense held the Cardinals to eight yards or less on 10-of-13 drives in the game...GVSU limited Kentucky State to -22 rushing yards and 10 drives that consisted of five plays or less.

Last Week - Grand Valley State jumped out to a 35-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 49-28 win over then #1 Ferris State. GVSU has defeated FSU three times when they have been ranked number 1, including each of the last two years. QB Avery Moore rushed for 126 yards and two TDs, while throwing a 30-yard TD pass to Kyle Nott. QB Cade Peterson completed 15-of-25 passes for 151 yards and three TDs, while rushing for 40 yards. LB Anthony Cardamone tallied 11 tackles, 4.0 TFL, 3.0 QB sacks and returned an interception 20 yards for a TD. SS Kobe Hayward notched a career-high 10 tackles, while Niles King recorded 3.0 TFL and 2.0 QB sacks. 

• In the last four games the GVSU offense has scored on 18-of-19 redzone opportunities, 16 TDs and two FG. Assumption was the last non redzone score.
   The Laker defense has allowed just six redzone opportunities, with the opponents scoring five TDs. 

• The GVSU O-Line has allowed just seven QB sacks in the last four games.

• The Laker defense has seven interceptions, 14 pass breakups, 22 QB sacks and 19 QB hurries in the last four games. 

• The Laker rushing game has tallied 1,139 yards and 13 rushing TDs in the last four games. 284.7 yards per game and 7.3 yards per carry. 

• The GVSU defense has forced 48 drives that have been six plays or less and 30 drives that have been three-and-out.
