ALLENDALE, MICH. – The first game between the Grand Valley women's basketball team and Parkside went into overtime, and the rematch looked bound for it at halftime. However, a 52-point eruption in the second half from the Lakers allowed them to power past the Rangers 75-57. The win moves them to 19-2 overall and 10-1 in GLIAC play.
A three-pointer from
Hadley Miller kicked off a 7-2 run to open the game for the Lakers. However, the Rangers would respond with a 9-2 run to close out the quarter and led 11-9 after 10 minutes of play.
Parkside pushed the lead up to four to begin the second quarter, but
Nicole Kamin hit the first of her four triples on the day to cut it within one at 13-12, Parkside leading. After two Ranger baskets, GVSU retook the lead at 19-17, with back-to-back threes from Kamin and
Lexi Plitzuweit. Parkside would respond and ended the half on an 8-4 run to lead 25-23 at the break.
The Lakers came out of the locker room hot, opening the second half on an 8-0, capped by threes from
Emily Spitzley and Kamin, as they led 31-25. Parkside would cut it to four but would never get any closer the rest of the way, as GVSU stayed hot to end the quarter, getting another three from Kamin, eight points from
Rylie Bisballe, and a buzzer-beating three from
Hannah Kulas as part of a 29-point third quarter to lead 52-41 heading into the fourth.
The fourth quarter was more of the same for the Lakers, started by a 13-5 scoring run to open the final 10 minutes of play, with
Hadley Miller scoring six for GVSU. Parkside attempted to get back into the game, but Spitzley iced the game with another three with two minutes left, finishing off the season sweep of the Rangers.
Nicole Kamin erupted for a career-high 20 points, knocking down all four of her threes and hitting 4-4 from the line as well.
Hadley Miller had a near double-double, putting up 13 points and grabbing eight rebounds, while also getting four steals.
Rylie Bisballe added 13 points and five rebounds, while
Emily Spitzley had 13 points and six rebounds.
Lexi Plitzuweit pulled down six boards off the bench.
