ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley women's volleyball returned home for the first time this season, and took on rival Davenport in midweek GLIAC volleyball action. Despite GVSU winning the first set, the Panthers were able to come back and take the match 3-1.
The Lakers took the first set 25-23 using three 3-0 runs and one 4-0 run to gain control of the game and take the first set. In the second set, it was the Panthers using runs to get ahead, as they went on four 3-0 or more runs throughout the set to take the set 25-18 and tie the match at one set apiece. The third set was more back and forth, with both teams going on mini runs, but neither could really take full control of the game until Davenport had two late runs to pull in front and they were able to hang on from there 25-22. In set four, the Panthers got out to a 6-0 lead to start it out and used a late 8-0 run to finish out the game with a 25-16 victory.
Kendall Stover had a big game to lead the Lakers, tallying a career-high 19 kills, while swinging at a .239 clip.
Savannah Thompson recorded 11 kills and nine digs, while
Sarah Wight had nine kills and three blocks.
Jordyn Gates dished out 21 assists, dug out 17 balls, and added eight kills for Grand Valley.

The Lakers head back out on the road this weekend, traveling to Saginaw Valley on Friday at 7pm, before turning around and facing Wayne State on Saturday at 2pm.
