ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State baseball team lost to Davenport 7-5 in the four-game series finale Monday (May 2) at the GVSU Baseball Field. The Lakers fall to 28-16 on the season.
Davenport jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning off a leadoff triple followed by a wild pitch. The Lakers would take a 2-1 lead in the second inning with RBI singles from junior
Spencer Nelson and sophomore
Kyle Nott. Davenport would answer in the third with a 2-run home run to right field to take a 3-2 lead.
In the fourth inning,
Kyle Nott reached on a Davenport error that scored two runs, giving the Lakers a 4-3 lead. The Panthers responded in the fifth, tying the game at four with an RBI double to left field. Davenport would take the lead in the seventh and would add two runs in the ninth for a 7-4 lead. The Lakers scored one run in the bottom half of the ninth on a
Nathan Logan RBI double.
Mark Scannell got the start on the mound and was tagged with the loss (3-2) after tossing 6.2 innings allowing five runs off four hits, while striking out five. Nelson and Nott each had two hits and drove in a run.
Connor Schuman and
Carter Smith each went 2-4 at the plate with two runs scored.
The Lakers return to the diamond this Friday (May 6) when they host Parkside at 3:05 PM at the GVSU Baseball Field. It will be the start of a four-game home series to close out the regular season.
