No. 20 Baseball opens GLIAC play at Northwood Saturday

MIDLAND, Mich. – The No. 20 Grand Valley State baseball team travels to Midland, Michigan to open GLIAC action against Northwood. The Lakers will play a four-game series this weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday. The full schedule will be as follows:
 
Game one: Saturday, 1 PM (7-innings)
Game two: Saturday, 4 PM (9-innings)
Game three: Sunday, 12 PM (7-innings)
Game four: Sunday, 3 PM (9-innings)

GVSU is coming off a doubleheader sweep against Lewis Tuesday (April 5) in the home opener. The Lakers won game one 6-5 off a Kyle Nott walk off single in extra innings, and came back to win game two 10-6 after trailing 5-1. The wins improved GVSU to 17-7 on the season.
 
The Laker offense are hitting .301 as a team, led by senior Christian Faust who is batting a team leading .402 on the season. Faust also leads the team in hits (35), RBI's (31), and runs scored (29). Sophomore Nathan Logan is hitting .384 on the season with a team leading five home runs and 11 doubles. Sophomore Kyle Nott is batting .345 on the season with 25 runs scored and 13 runs batted in. Nott is a perfect 16-16 on the season in stolen bases, leading the GLIAC.
 
The Laker pitching staff is second in the GLIAC with a 4.19 team era. Redshirt freshman Collin Bradley leads the staff with five wins in six appearances. Bradley has a 1.40 era on the season with 24 strikeouts in 19.1 innings pitched. Sophomore Austin Brown is 3-0 on the season in five starts with a 3.90 era and a team leading 37 strikeouts in 27.2 innings pitched. The Laker bullpen has been stellar this season led by senior closer Nick Shaw. Shaw has four saves on the season in eight appearances, and has 23 strikeouts in 12.0 innings pitched. 
 
Northwood enters the weekend 15-11-1 on the season and 2-2 in the GLIAC. The Timberwolves last played against Davenport two weekends ago in their GLIAC opening series where they split the four-game series. Northwood is hitting .281 as a team led by sophomore Matt Magno who is hitting .433 on the season. Redshirt freshman Myles Beale leads the Timberwolves in runs scored (26) and runs batted in (26). The pitching staff has a 6.10 team era. Sophomore Derek Clark is 3-1 on the season in seven starts. Clark has pitched four complete games with a 3.74 era and a team leading 42 strikeouts. Redshirt freshman Jayden Dentler is 3-1 in seven starts on the season with a 3.18 era and 31 strikeouts.
