The Lakers struck first as junior Molly Bursinger netted her first goal of the game at the 10:27 mark in the first period. In the final two minutes of the first quarter, senior Olivia Esposito and sophomore Maddy Champagne each scored a goal to give the Lakers a 3-0 lead. However, UIndy was able to score with just a second remaining on the clock and make it 3-1 heading into the second.

GVSU sophomore Hailey Crittenden started the second period with her first goal of the game and just 30 seconds later, Champagne scored her second goal of the day, giving the Lakers a 5-1 advantage over the Greyhounds.

UIndy responded with four goals of their own, tying it up at 5-5 with 6:50 remaining in the first half. The greyhounds finally took the lead 6-5 with just under three minutes left and the Lakers closed out the quarter down one.

Junior Maggie Hammer netted her first goal of the day to tie it back up at 6-6 and with nine minutes left on the clock, senior attacker Sophie Conroy's goal gave GVSU the lead at 7-6. The Lakers struggled to slow down the Greyhounds, as UIndy netted three goals to take the lead 9-7. Bursinger sent home her second goal of the day with just under two minutes left in the third quarter before the Greyhounds scored again to extend their lead 10-8 heading into the fourth.

UIndy struck first in the final period, taking the lead 11-8. The Greyhounds would score the next three goals to give the Lakers their first loss of the year, 14-8.
