GVSU Men's Tennis Claims 7-0 Win Over Walsh

Lakers improve to 6-1

Box Score The Grand Valley State men's tennis team up its record to 6-1 on the year with a 7-0 victory over Walsh Saturday (Feb. 19). The Lakers claimed the doubles point and then swept through singles action for the shutout win. 

Freddy Cossio and Tomas Oliveira came through with a tough 7-6 (7-4) win at #2 doubles, while Martin Matov and Sean Miller claimed a 6-3 win at #3 doubles that enabled GVSU to claim the doubles point. 

Josep Canyadell claimed a key 7-5, 6-4 win at #1 singles, followed by a three-set victory (6-7, 6-3, 6-3) at #2 singles for Sean Miller. Sebastian Arce (6-2, 6-1) and Tomas Oliveira (6-1, 6-1) dominated play in straight-set victories at #3 and #4 singles action. Martin Matov battled back after dropping the first set to pick up a nice victory (2-6, 6-2, 6-2) at #5 singles, while Freddy Cossio closed the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at #6 singles. 

GVSU will host Grace College Saturday (Feb. 26).
