Women's Basketball Hits The Century Mark In Win Over Central State

Lakers Put Up 100 Points For The First Time Since 2019 In Resounding 100-51 Win

ALLENDALE, MICH. – It was another dominating performance for the number one ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team, as they put up a season-high 100 points in a 100-51 rout of Central State this afternoon.

The Lakers got the scoring started early, as Emily Spitzley buried a triple just seconds into the contest to give GVSU the lead, one that they would never relinquish. After an Ellie Droste three-pointer, it was 13-7 at the media timeout. From that point on, the Lakers dominated the game, ending the quarter on a 13-5 run to lead 26-12 after one quarter.

That momentum carried into the second quarter, as GV opened on an 18-2 run, as Ellie Droste hit another three to begin the run, Splitzley had seven points during the run, and Lexi Plitzuweit finished it off with a three of her own. The Lakers continued to pour it on, as Droste hit her fourth triple of the game and Avery Zeinstra made one from the logo on the Lakers final possession of the half, and they held a commanding 61-23 lead into the break.

Another Laker scoring run began the third quarter, as they outscored the Marauders 11-2 to open the second half. Central State made a run to end the quarter, outscoring GVSU by six the rest of the period, but still trailed 80-39 with one quarter to play.

The offense kept clicking for the Lakers in the final quarter, as Plitzuweit hit her second three of the contest, then Zeinstra made a layup to give the Lakers their largest lead of the game at 50 points, 91-51. Megan Crow made three straight layups and Zeinstra made another deep three to give the Lakers 100 points for the first time since December 5th, 2019.

Emily Spitzley once again led the Lakers in scoring, pouring in a season-high 22 points, while adding eight rebounds, three steals, three assists, and two blocks. Ellie Droste had a season-high 16 points, hitting five threes, and Lexi Plitzuweit also had a season-high in points, scoring 12. Hadley Miller pulled down a career-high nine rebounds and Macy Bisballe had a career-high seven rebounds. The Lakers dominated the glass this afternoon, outrebounding the Marauders 58-30.
