Women's Basketball Moves To 4-0 With An 83-45 Win Over Findlay

GVSU - Findlay Highlights

ALLENDALE, MICH.
– Already with three victories of twenty or more points to begin the season, the #1-ranked Grand Valley State women's basketball team put together their best performance of the season in today's win over Findlay. Thirteen different Lakers found themselves in the scorebook, and the Oilers never held the lead at any point in the game, as Grand Valley State decimated the Oilers in an 83-45 victory.

Ellie Droste got the scoring started for GVSU, drilling a three on the second possession of the game to give the Lakers a lead that they would never let up. After two free throws, the Lakers went on an 8-0 run to take control of the game at 11-2. Findlay cut it to 13-6, but GVSU responded with a 6-0 run, and led 19-10 after the first 10 minutes.

The Oilers scored to open the second quarter, before Nicole Kamin started a 9-2 run with her first three-pointer of the game, and GV took a double-digit lead at 28-14. From the 5:44 mark in the quarter until the end, the Lakers dominated, outscoring the Oilers 21-4 the rest of the way, taking a 48-21 lead going into halftime.

The Oilers opened the second half with back-to-back buckets, but Grand Valley got right back to their scoring ways with an and-one jumper from Emily Spitzley and two free throws from Joslyn Brennan. The two teams traded baskets for a few minutes in the quarter, but a 6-0 run to end the quarter from the Lakers put them ahead 67-33 after the third quarter.

Grand Valley began the fourth on a 9-4 run, started by an and-one layup from Courtney Sharland, and the Lakers defense continued to stifle Findlay, as they allowed a season-low 45 points to pick up the 38-point win.

Joslyn Brennan was the high scorer for the Lakers, tallying 13 points on 4-5 shooting from the floor and knocking down four free throws. Emily Spitzley had 12 points, while Ellie Droste had 11, and Abrie Cabana was all over the stat sheet with 10 points, three assists, and three steals. Hadley Miller was the top rebounder with six and Megan Crow came off the bench to get two blocks. In total, the Lakers forced 24 turnovers and held Findlay to 0-12 from deep and had seven blocks as a team.
