ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley women's volleyball team played a matinee match against rival Ferris State this afternoon to close out a two weekend, three game homestand. The Lakers gave the Bulldogs a fight, and took set one, but the Bulldogs responded and took the next three and won the match 3-1.
The Lakers took set one 25-15 after getting out to an early 10-5 lead and held on to that lead the rest of the way. Set two took a few extra points before it was decided, but the Bulldogs used a late run to take the lead and were able to hold off the Lakers and took set two 27-25. In set three, Ferris State jumped out to the early advantage, going up 8-1 and despite a late Laker comeback attempt, they took a 2-1 set lead with a 25-18 win. Set four was back and forth throughout, with the two teams were tied at 17 late in the set, but the Bulldogs went on a late 5-0 run to take control and won the set 25-21 and took the match 3-1.
Jordyn Gates had a season-high 17 kills today, while adding 20 assists and nine digs.
Jaelianna Primus tallied 12 kills and four total blocks, and
Kendall Stover added 10 kills.
Rachel Jacquay dished out 28 assists and
McKenzie Johnson had 20 digs.
