ALLENDALE, Mich. – The No. 6 Grand Valley State women's soccer team is set to host a pair of big GLIAC games in the final two regular season home games. The Lakers will take on Saginaw Valley State on Friday (Oct. 14) under the lights at 7:00 PM. On Sunday, the Lakers will host rivals Ferris State at 1:00 PM. Both games are being streamed on FloSports, while gvsulakers.com will provide links to live stats.
The Lakers return home from their trip to the U.P last weekend. GVSU picked up a 2-0 win at Michigan Tech, before playing to a scoreless draw at Northern Michigan. Junior
Mackenzie Jones scored the game-winning goal against the Huskies for her third of the season. The Lakers enter this weekend in first place in the GLIAC standings with five games remaining. GVSU holds a 7-0-2 record in the GLIAC, 9-1-3 overall.

Kennedy Bearden who ranks first in the GLIAC with six assists, third with six goals, and second in points with 18. Junior
Taylor Reid scored her team leading seventh goal last week at Michigan Tech. Reid's seven goals ranks tied for second in the GLIAC, and her 16 points ranks tied for fifth in the conference. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kendall Robertson has started all 13 games for the Lakers and ranks first in the GLIAC in save percentage (.837) and goals-against average (0.57). Robertson earned two shutouts last weekend and is up to five complete shutouts and two combined on the season. Senior defender
Cate Brown played all 180 minutes last weekend and leads all Lakers field players with 960 minutes played on the season.
Saginaw Valley State comes into Allendale in fourth place in the GLIAC standings with a 5-2-2 record. The Lakers are 32-2-4 all time against the Cardinals. The last time these two teams faced off was the first weekend of GLIAC play this season in University Center, Michigan that saw the Lakers defeating the Cardinals 3-2. Reid led the Lakers with two goals and an assist, while Bearden added a goal and assist.
The Cardinals are led by sophomore Stephanie Strong who has notched seven goals and three assists for 17 points on the season. Freshman Rileigh Garbarz has added four goals and an assist for nine points on the year. Saginaw Valley State has split goalkeeping starts between freshmen's Lainey Garbarz and Kennedi Pugh. Garbarz has appeared in eight games making seven starts, posting a 4-1-1 record, while posting a .724 save percentage and 1.02 goals-against average. Pugh has appeared and started in six games making 14 saves on a .737 save percentage.
On Sunday, the Lakers will host rival Ferris State. The Bulldogs travel to Davenport University on Friday before making the trip to Allendale. Ferris State is currently tied for second in the GLIAC with a 5-1-3 record. They have won six out of their last seven games, including a 1-1 draw against Saginaw Valley State. The Lakers leads the all-time series 33-5-3 against the Bulldogs. The last time these two teams met was in the GLIAC opener in Big Rapids that ended in a scoreless draw. Shots in that game were even at 12 apiece with the Lakers having a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bulldogs are led by senior forward Isabella Zamborini who leads the GLIAC with eight goals and 21 points. Zamborini has got off 54 shot attempts and 27 on goal this season. Senior forward Taylor Price has added four goals on 12 shots this season for the Bulldog offense. Sophomore goalkeeper Darya Mosallaei has appeared and started in nine games for the Bulldogs this season posting a .784 save percentage that ranks third in the GLIAC and 0.89 goal-against average.
